Premiums 2027: Key Dates, Forecast and Preparation

Reviewed by easyall · Updated August 2026 · 3 min read

At the end of September 2026, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) will announce the health insurance premiums for 2027. If you prepare now, you can compare at your leisure after publication and meet the deadlines with confidence. Here you will find the key dates, how premiums have developed in recent years and a checklist for the autumn.

When will the 2027 premiums be announced?

Every summer, the FOPH approves the premiums submitted by the health insurers and, as experience shows, publishes them in the second half of September at a press conference held by the Federal Department of Home Affairs. From that day onwards, the official 2027 premiums for all insurers and regions are available in the premium calculator.

Your current health insurer must send you your personal premium notification by the end of October 2026. But don't wait for the letter to start comparing: the official figures are final from the moment of publication — easyall loads them immediately after the announcement.

How much will premiums rise in 2027?

The exact figure will only be known once the premiums are published. Recent years, however, point to the direction of travel: in 2024 the average monthly premium rose by 8.7 percent, in 2025 by 6.0 percent and in 2026 by 4.4 percent to CHF 393.30. The increase has flattened of late, but a further rise is considered likely given growing healthcare costs.

Important: the average premium is a mean across all insurers, regions and models. Your personal increase may differ considerably — which is exactly why comparing pays off: in many cantons, the gap between the most expensive and the cheapest insurer amounts to several hundred francs per year, for identical basic insurance benefits.

These deadlines apply for switching as of 1 January 2027

Basic insurance (KVG — the mandatory insurance under the Swiss Health Insurance Act): your cancellation must reach your current insurer by 30 November 2026 — what counts is receipt, not the postmark. You can switch regardless of age or state of health; the new insurer must accept you for basic insurance.

Supplementary insurance (VVG — policies under the Swiss Insurance Contract Act): here, the notice periods in your contract terms apply, usually three months to the end of the year — meaning the cancellation must reach the insurer by 30 September 2026; some products have longer notice periods. Check your policy early. And importantly: only cancel a supplementary policy once you have the new insurer's confirmation of acceptance — with easyall, this safeguard is built into the process.

In the event of a premium increase, basic insurance in any case gives you the ordinary right to switch as of 1 January. For supplementary insurance, many insurers grant a special right of cancellation when premiums are adjusted — whether this applies, and with what notice period, is set out in the general terms and conditions (AVB) of your product.

How to prepare now

First: have your current policy at hand — it shows you at a glance what you pay today and which supplementary policies you hold. With easyall, you can also upload your policy; the comparison then takes over your existing cover automatically.

Second: think about your deductible and insurance model. If you rarely see a doctor, the CHF 2'500 deductible combined with a family doctor, HMO or telemedicine model often saves several hundred francs per year.

Third: activate the free Prämien-Alarm (easyall's premium alert). We will email you as soon as the official 2027 premiums are available — together with the comparison for your canton. That way you will miss neither the publication nor the cancellation deadline.

What happens after the announcement?

Immediately after publication, easyall calculates with the official FOPH premiums for 2027. You compare all health insurers in your region, choose your model and deductible and submit your application online — including the timely cancellation of your current insurer. Between the announcement at the end of September and the cancellation deadline at the end of November, you have around two months: enough time for a calm, well-informed decision.

Frequently asked questions

When will my health insurer's premium notification arrive?
Insurers must notify you of the new premiums by the end of October 2026. The official figures, however, are already available from the FOPH publication at the end of September — so you can start comparing earlier.
Can I cancel my basic insurance now?
Yes, you can cancel as of the end of the year at any time; the cancellation must reach your insurer by 30 November 2026. As a rule, it only makes sense once you know the new premiums and have chosen your new insurer — if you switch via easyall, the cancellation is handled for you.
Does the November deadline also apply to supplementary insurance?
No. Supplementary insurance under the VVG has its own deadlines, usually three months to the end of the year — that is, by 30 September 2026. The general terms and conditions (AVB) of your product are decisive.
What is easyall's Prämien-Alarm?
A free email service: as soon as the official 2027 premiums are published, you receive a message with the comparison for your canton. One email per year, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Do premiums rise equally in all cantons?
No. The increase varies considerably by canton, premium region, insurer and model. A high average does not automatically mean your own premium will rise sharply — and vice versa. What matters is the comparison in your region.
